Downtown Telluride is a loose term for the blocks immediately surrounding the gondola base at the west end of Colorado Avenue, extending roughly to Fir Street east and Oak Street west. This is the most walkable part of an already walkable town: the gondola plaza, the Society Turn chairlift, and the trailhead for Bear Creek are all within four blocks of each other.

The density of good things to do from a downtown address is the reason guests return to the same home year after year. You can ski off the Plunge run and be back on Colorado Ave in twelve minutes. You can walk to dinner at Allred's, Chop House, or Rustico without a car. The morning market at the farmers co-op is two blocks away.

For festival visits — Telluride Film Festival in September, Bluegrass in June, Blues & Brews in September, Jazz Festival in August — downtown is where the stages are, where the crowds gather, and where the energy concentrates. Staying here during a festival week puts guests inside the event rather than adjacent to it.

A downtown address is the rare combination: close enough to walk to anything, far enough from the main drag to sleep — minutes on foot to Colorado Ave and the gondola plaza.

The box canyon and Bridal Veil Falls are visible from most east-facing windows in this area. The Telluride Library is a couple of blocks away, and the Bear Creek trailhead — one of the best short hikes in Colorado — starts at the south end of Pine Street.
