Telluride or Mountain Village: where should you stay?
Choose the Town of Telluride if your trip revolves around Colorado Avenue, restaurants and events in town. Consider Mountain Village if your priority is access to the ski resort and a mountain setting. The free gondola connects them during its operating seasons; the route from your particular home matters as much as the neighborhood.

Start with the day you want to have.
| Your priority | Town of Telluride | Mountain Village |
|---|---|---|
| Restaurants and time in town | Look for a home near the Colorado Avenue places you plan to visit. | Plan your route to the village core or across to town. |
| Ski mornings | Check the route from the home to the gondola or your chosen lift. | Compare the actual ski-access description; village homes have different routes. |
| A festival visit | Match the home to your event venues and the walk home. | Check the return journey and operating hours for your event dates. |
| Space for a group | Compare bedrooms, sleeping capacity and shared living areas. | Use the same home-by-home checks; the area name does not establish capacity. |
| Travel without a car | Confirm the walk to transport, groceries and dinner. | Confirm the last part of the journey from transport to your door. |
Plan around the gondola season.
The gondola links Telluride, San Sophia, Mountain Village Center and Market Plaza. It closes for seasonal maintenance, so check the official operating calendar before choosing a home for a spring or fall trip.
Dinner at Allred’s is a mountain outing: the resort directs guests to take the gondola to San Sophia. Include that connection when planning an evening, even when you are staying in downtown Telluride.
Compare homes, then confirm the details.
Start with your dates, party size and the activities that anchor your trip. For each shortlisted home, ask about the exact route to those activities, stairs or other access needs, and any parking you require. A neighborhood description cannot answer those questions for every address.
